Butterflies are some of nature’s most beautiful insects. We begin this theme by examining how they are distinct from moths, and then dive into the butterfly’s life cycle – butterfly, egg, caterpillar in its different stages, chrysalis, butterfly!
From there we take an in-depth look at how butterflies see with their compound eyes, smell with their antennae, taste with their feet, and drink nectar with their proboscises. We also look at the different techniques butterflies and caterpillars use to defend themselves against predators.
